Our Wonder Room

Breaking In

Gary Larson - Far Side

“Sometimes we’re pushing on the door we want God to open, while his sign says ‘Pull.’”
–Martha Bolton

This reminded me of my trip to Target late last week. As Lori and I were leaving the store I proceeded to try to go out the “Do Not Enter” door. Not sure where my mind was, but needless to say I didn’t get very far. I was trying to go out a door that was meant to be an entry.

I just had a thought though, as I was re-reading Bolton’s words. I wonder if sometimes I am trying to go out a door, pushing on it, when the reason it is there is to bring someone into my life. It seems much more intuitive for me to look at a door as a way out, and yet how many doors do I look at as opportunities for God to bring something or someone INTO my life and not take me or something or someone OUT OF my life?

Sometimes the “Pursuit of God” is about letting God bring Himself and other things in through a door that I must open. I want to open the door to allow God in, especially when I read these words from A. W. Tozer (‘The Pursuit of God’, p 26) –

“Yet who can flee from His Presence when the heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain Him?”
