Our Wonder Room

Something Right

Last night at 2:00 I woke up with a song running through my head that I’d heard recently. It was Billy Currington’s “Must Be Doin’ Something Right.” If you’re not a country music fan, please hang in there. The song was simply a springboard for God wanting to get my attention. Here is the chorus from the song –

“Must be doin’ something right
I just heard you sigh
You leaned into my kiss
And closed those deep blue need you eyes
Don’t know what I did
To earn a love like this, but baby, I
Must be doin’ something right”

Of course Currington isn’t singing about God, but when I’m lying in bed at 2:00 am wondering why this song is resonating, my mind goes to Him. There must be a reason. So, I got to thinking about God and how He might feel when I do something that is in line with His plan. Something right by a sinner like me. For me, the Parable of the Talents came to mind almost immediately –

““His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things;
I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’”
– Matthew 25:23

That is what I want, to share in His happiness. So I need to aware of what makes Him happy, and have that in the forefront of my mind. If I know what makes God happy it will be much easier to live a life that honoring to him. By no means am I an authority on what is pleasing to God. So I turned to His Word to find glimpses of what that might look like –
– being obedient, righteous – Deuteronomy 10:12-13 – having a humble heart – Micah 6:6-8
– having faith – John 6:28-29
– an attitude of thanksgiving and praise – Hebrews 13:15
– surrendering to God – John 8:29
– being patient – 1 Peter 2:19-20

Those are just some of the verses I found this morhing, and I am sure you can find many other verses and expand the list (the 10 Commandments, the Sermon on the Mount), but I wanted to put my finger on something that I could do today. Oh, that I might hear Him say to me, “Well done.” Better yet, that pleasing God would come so naturally that I might utter this slight adjustment of the last words from Currington’s song –

“I don’t know what I did
To earn a love like His, but I
Must be doin’ something right
Must be doin’ something right”

Be blessed,
Keith
