“Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides for ever.”
–Psalm 125:1, The Revised Standard Version
Some days those are the only words that I need to hear, so why not start the day off by hearing them. As today unfolds it will bring untold challenges and opportunities, just as yesterday did and the day before. What is different about today is that I have the opportunity to trust in God in new ways.
In my sometimes narrow view, one of the key things God desires of me is that I will seek Him out. Actually, that has to be the number one thing. If I am not seeking Him out then I will not find Him no matter how hard I look. I will not see His face in the face of strangers. I will not see His hands reaching for me. If I am not seeking Him out then how can I share Him with others? How can I be the hands and face they need? How can I provide the words they need? In order to go and make disciples I must BE a disciple that trust Him, that seeks after Him. That hungers for Him as He hungers for me.
Out of curiosity I looked to see how many times the word or forms of the word “trust” appear in the NIV New Testament. “Only” 30 times. As I read through them my heart resonated with these words from Paul –
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
–Romans 15:13
Trust isn’t for its own sake, trust is a way of living that leads to joy and peace. I want some of that.
Today may you grown in your trust in the Lord.
And thanks to my friend Beth for sharing these words –
“Because God’s resources are endless there will never be a time when He cannot meet your needs.”
