Gentle Whisper

“After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.”
1 Kings 19:12

My body is wired, at least up to this point in my life, to be one that is early-to-bed and early-to-rise. Sometimes though that gets thrown way off and I find myself unable to get back to sleep at some insane hour of the morning, like 2:15 this morning. What I have found, however, is that sometimes the very reason that I am unable to fall back to sleep is that I am not meant to be asleep. God is using a “gentle whisper” to encourage me to act upon the restlessness and perhaps spend time with Him. No earthquake or fire needed. Maybe only for a few minutes, or maybe a few hours.

So, this morning I found myself earnestly working on a devotional for Advent. The theme is going to be reflecting on the names of God. And, yes, one name definitely included will be “gentle whisper.”

May God bless you today by revealing His very nature. Maybe as Comforter. Maybe as King. Maybe simply as Wonderful.
