“There is not one blade of grass, there is no color in this world, that is not intended to make us rejoice.”
–John Calvin
These words from Calvin remind me of my personal challenges, as there are some days where all I can see are shades of gray. They aren’t dark days filled with despair, or bright days of continual joy. They are days when I’m more mired in mediocrity, which is easy for me to do. Probably easy for all of us to do. Days that sort of fly by with seemingly nothing that stands out and screams “REJOICE IN ME!” (Me, of course being God).
How sad that is. And misleading.
I think each of us, no matter the day, pass by moments and opportunities that are on the verge of fully rejoicing. For example, each morning I have been here in Palm Springs I have looked at amazing sunsets and sunrises. But I have not fully stopped, soaked them in, and rejoiced in God’s creation. We have seen and met wonderful people, but have I stopped and rejoiced in their hospitality?
So today I am reminded that my, at times our rejoicing needs to be intentional. The preverbal “stop to smell the roses”. May your day today be blades of grass, and the color ______.
In His service,
Keith
