Our Wonder Room

Questioning

This morning I was watching one of our dogs sleeping. As I was doing that I heard the other one walking toward the kitchen. “A little something for tummy would be good,” is what I’m sure he’s thinking. Then I got to wondering what they’re thinking about our house over these last few days as Lori is in Morocco and will be for the next two weeks. Isn’t that part of our human nature, to wonder what other people (or animals) are thinking? To wonder what God is thinking? To question the unknown.

The fact that endless questions and uncertainty confront me constantly forces me to my knees. It is not because they are overwhelming, which they are. Nor is it because I want all the answers, or do I? My knees are worn because I am working towards surrendering all my uncertainties for the certainty of two words: “I am.” I’m not there yet. Still I give in to my nature to try to find some answers on my own. I’m not talking, “Did the Sonics win last night?” type of questions. But questions like, “Are Lori, Marie, Lisa and Melody safe?” In two words are the answers to any question I have. “I AM.”

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust'” (Psalm 91:1-2, NIV).

Uh oh, two dogs moving around now. Better go feed ’em. No need to wonder what they’re thinking now. Hope you all have a wonderful day.
