“When I was young, I admired clever people. Now that I am old, I admire kind people.”
– Abraham Joshua Heschel, theology professor (1907-1972)
When I finished reading this quote, I thought that it sounded pretty accurate for my case. However, the interesting thing that I think I ask the same question: “How’d they do that?” even though I am looking for different answers and maybe even asking different people. I know that is the very question when I read about people and circumstances in the Word. Walk on water? Deny Christ 3 times? Wait on the Lord? The questions are endless.
Getting back to the quote more directly though, people admire people. Maybe “admire” isn’t even the right word, but I’m watching, learning, judging. My hope though, is that I see others through the lens of Christ, and take from them what it is He desires me to see, that I may grow more like Him since He has created all things. Surely all earthly things have been corrupted, but with His Spirit, may I still discern the goodness He intended.
