“What then are we afraid of? Can we have too much of God?
Is it a misfortune to be freed from the heavy yoke of the
world, and to bear the light burden of Jesus Christ? Do we
fear to be too happy, too much delivered from ourselves, from
the caprices of our pride, the violence of our passions, and
the tyranny of this deceitful world?”
– François Fénelon
Okay, I don’t think that I’ve ever asked myself that question! Have too much of God? This certainly is something for me to ponder all day. What then could I possibly use to hinder me from praying and conversing with God? For He answers prayers. I know that. But should I not approach my Lord and God with some degree of fear and trembling? I am thinking of Philippians 2:12 – “continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling”, and then of Psalm 34:9 – “Fear the LORD, you His saints, for those who fear Him lack nothing”. However, then I get to verses Philippians 2:14 through 16 and rejoice:
“Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life–in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing.”
Pray, pray, pray. My brain is too simple to figure everything out, so I go back to Fenelon’s question and the answer is a resounding NO!!! I can not have too much of God.
