Next week I am going to begin a new Language/Social Studies theme with my class. The title to the theme is “Sharing Our Earth.” It was because of this that last night I was trying to think of different activities and lessons that we could do and text we could read. So many options and wonderful books and ideas about sharing and cooperation. It was really exciting to think of encouraging a group of fourth graders to think of and participate in sharing in new ways.
So, this morning I sit here convicted of not always having that same excitement in sharing my own Faith in the Lord. I don’t think of plans or strategies to improve my sharing skills. I seldom venture in search of new ways to share. It’s more like having a candle and not lighting it; just setting it out there so people can see it, but not actually lighting it and sharing the light. Sounds like that idea I’ve read about this week in ’40 Days of Purpose’… evangelism. Hmmm, maybe I need to come up with my own lesson plan for this part of my life.
Anyway, one of the reasons I wanted to teach elementary was so that I could encourage young people in developing the skills to read and write.. to comprehend and to express themselves with language. Wow! Until this morning I had not connected that with evangelism until just now. I want to help them to develop the skills to hear, to live and to share The Good News.
Philemon 1:6 – “I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.”
