“Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.”
–Francis of Assisi
There are times in my life when things seem to be going along pretty good. To my simple eyes. Then I can take a gander at some words such as those by Francis of Assisi and realize how blind I am. I have no way of knowing what is going through the hearts and minds of those that I encounter. The sorrows, pains and darkness are they hiding from me and others.
Oh my. Picturing even a glimpse of that takes me to Christ, as He took the burdens of all upon Himself. That is a scary image. An overwhelming image. And I am to be like Christ?
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
– Matthew 11:28
I don’t know how much rest I can bring, but I can bring a smile or a kind word and do simple things that may bring love, pardon, hope, light and joy to others. Simple things can mean so much. Something to keeping it simple.
