If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.
–Henry David Thoreau
I loved these words. How many times has my grounding in God’s Word caused me to give pause to going to a particular place, reading a particular book, or listening to a particular song? There are times that I feel out of pace with the world (I mean really, it took me a while to get into Facebook) but you know, that’s okay. God works within each of us to grow closer to Him and that will look different in each of our lives. So let us give grace to our friends and family who are different.
But, in as much as the different drummer draws souls from Christ, let us stand still or turn. Let us be the sweet music in those lives that turns their hearts toward eternal life in Jesus Christ.
“Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”
–Hebrews 12:1,2
