“He is the Source.
Of everything.
Strength for your day.
Wisdom for your task.
Comfort for your soul.
Grace for your battle.
Provision for each need.
Understanding for each failure.
Assistance for every encounter.”
–Jack Hayford
One of the books I am reading right now is Almost Home by Joan Bauer. It is a very enlightening book in that it is written from the perspective of a young adult of about 10 or 11 dealing with homelessness…not exactly something I think about often. While it is a fictional work, it does make me think about how much I have and what it would be like to lose it all. One of the things that draws me in is that the main character, Sugar, likes to write and read poetry. Love that. Here is a poem from part of the book I read last night –
“When you don’t think you can keep going,
You might be right,
But just in case you’re wrong,
Keep marching.”
Whether we are dealing with homelessness, death of a loved one, or our own physical or mental pain, there are going to be days like Sugar has, when we feel like just hunkering down and doing what we can to keep the world at a safe distance. Even keeping God at a safe distance. But in that place of solitude, may I, may we, always hear His voice piercing the darkness.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
–Matthew 5:4
I like something else Sugar said, amidst her challenges –
“Before all this happened
I wasn’t brave like I am now.”
I wanna be brave in all things, trusting in God’s ways, though I fail miserably at understanding them.
In His service,
Keith
