The Smallest Good Act

“The smallest good act today is the capture of a strategic point from which, a few months later, you may be able to go on to victories you never dreamed of.”
–C. S. Lewis

The thing I found most intriguing about reading these words form C.S. Lewis this morning is not the possible rewards I stand to gain in the future, but just the fact that I should and CAN be doing small acts every day. It should never be about what is in it for me, but what is in it for the person to whom the good act is directed. Well, that and what is in it for God. My “smallest good acts” should reveal the FAITH I have that God can achieve great things through the smallest of my WORKS. My faith in God’s power, mercy and grace should empower me to do not just good works but GREAT works.

I dare to interpret that the victories of which Lewis speaks are not my own but His. Which is much more exciting. May I joyfully live out my faith in a trusting and powerful God to do great things through my work. Not that I might be justified before Him, but so He will be justified in the eyes of believers and non-believers. That I may personally speak of the God, the name above all names.

“Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”
–1 Corinthians 1:31
