“I neglect God and his angels for the noise of a fly, for the rattling of a coach, for the whining of a door.”
John Donne
When I woke up this morning the thought that was racing through my head, and actually the same thought was racing yesterday as well, was “all the world is ablaze” with His glory. Yet I could not find that phrase in the Bible, in any translation. I found some that were close, when I searched for the phrase “His Glory” in the NIV –
and I saw the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east. His voice was like the roar of rushing waters, and the land was radiant with his glory.
Ezekiel 43:2
Praise be to his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and Amen.
Psalm 72:19
The LORD our God has shown us his glory and his majesty, and we have heard his voice from the fire.
Deuteronomy 5:24
BUT, the one that struck me the most were the words from Isaiah 6:3 –
“And they were calling to one another:“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”
It is easy for me, as Donne says, to be distracted by other things. While those distractions can take me away from time with God, many times it has been “distractions” that have brought me nearer to Him. Sometimes I think the distractions can actually be God refocusing me.
Today may you find the whole earth, or at least your little corner of it, is full of His glory.
