“Yea, our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name.”
–Psalm 33:21, The Revised Standard Version
Those were the words I needed to hear this morning. Yesterday my sister-in-law Diana and her husband and son had to evacuate their home in Los Alamos because of wildfires in the area. They are not sure when they can return to their home, or what they will return to. It is so hard for me to imagine the emotion, to imagine the thoughts as Diana, Jon and Luke try to take what they can with them in their car as they (along with Duncan their dog) and the rest of the town evacuate. The fire is only one mile from the Los Alamos National Laboratory where Jon works. This all reminds me of the similar situation back in 2000 for them, the scars of which were still visible 10 years later when we visited last August for their daughter Lisa’s wedding.
I am thankful for His word this morning that tells me to be glad. I am thankful that Diana, Jon, Luke and Duncan are in a safe place. In Him I will be glad. Amidst the turmoil of the last 24 hours I’m not sure I would have found the “gladness” were it not for reading those words from Psalm this morning.
As you have time today, maybe you could pray for the entire community of Los Alamos. And, as Diana asked, for the firefighters too.
