Our Wonder Room

His Name: Lawgiver

“For the Lord is our judge,
    the Lord is our lawgiver,
the Lord is our king;
    it is he who will save us.
Isaiah 33:22

These words from Isaiah do an intersting thing for me and make for an interesting equation. One way of reading them seems to say laws equal salvation. Probably my oversimplification, but very interesting for me as I reflect on them. I don’t want to find myself reflecting right now on the “old law” and the “new law” but simply THE law. Not even on what the laws are, just that there are laws set forth by God.

The simplicity of Isaiah 33:22 is that by establishing boundaries, by setting up laws, God is protecting me. Not just protecting me, but saving me. How cool is that? The laws are not there to punish me or to restrict me, but to offer to me that which I am incapable of attaining on my own.

ps…Thank you for your prayers and gifts for the Johnsons. I’m going to leave the donation page available through next Saturday, when my pastor, Lori and I meet with Graham and his family.  Frankly, I am overwhelmed by the response. Thank you seems way to inadequate.
