His Name: Gift of God

Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
John 4:10

How would I describe the best gift that I have ever recieved? Was it a toy growing up? Or that special time spent with a family member or friend? So many thoughts of gifts. Good gifts. Wow!

For me, honestly, my best gift would be my wife, Lori. So many things about who I am, where I am and why I am would never had happened were it not for her. She was, and is, the Gift of God reaching into my life and drawing me near to Him.

For me, and probably for many, the power of a gift lies in its unexpectedness, its timeliness, its unending power. I can take all the appreciation that I have for Lori, especially all the appreciation I fail to express, and still I can not fathom how to measure the “gift of God.”

During this holiday season, and through the other days of the years to come, may you embrace the Gift of God with all your heart, but also allow God to use you as a gift in the lives of others. There is nothing as humbling and yet rewarding as saying to God, “here I am, send me.” May you be the instrument of His peace.
