Our Wonder Room

Collisions

“Like cars in amusement parks, our direction is often determined through collisions.”
-Yahia Lababidi, writer (b. 1973)

Wow! What a great word picture. I can just picture God steering right for me, and there I am trying to avoid the fender bender. Here is He, sending His Word, His earthly saints, and His Holy Spirit, trying to get my attention… and I’m worried about damaging the precious car I am driving in… wanting to stay on this road I am that appears safe and secure.

By the same token, though, how many times has my life been made the better (in the long run usually) by a loud BOOM that at the time rocked my world? For me, I know it takes those “collisions” to get my attention and refocus on higher things. At the time they seem like chance encounters, or chance readings or inklings, but they are His instruments for getting my attention.

When collisions happen, my first response should be to look around and ask, “Okay, God, where are you?” Nothing happens without a reason. Without a purpose. And remember, too, that sometimes you and I will be the cause of collision in someone else’s life… for the God’s good. Wait! We better be the collision, the salt, in the lives of others. The more dents the better, right? Love taps.
