Our Wonder Room

Homeless

“At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great things we have done. We will be judged by “I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat. I was naked and you clothed me. I was homeless, and you took me in.” Hungry not only for bread- but hungry for love. Naked not only for clothing- but naked of human dignity and respect. Homeless not only for want of a home of bricks- but homeless because of rejection.”
–Mother Teresa

In the wake of the natural disasters, and the economic crunch, it is easy for me to think pretty narrowly about the term “homeless”. It is about looking beyond the obvious and realizing how complex lives and situations are. In our fast-paced world people are good at moving along just to keep up and or present a good face, while inside they are struggling. We all do it to some degree… we have to. Everyone doesn’t need to know when we are limping along because of this or that. I know there are good friends I have who still don’t know we had to put one of our dogs down. We just go on.

Matthew 5:4 (NIV) – Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

To whom will God enable me to give shelter to today? To comfort? And may I do so without even realizing it, and without need for acknowledgement.
