“In order that people may be happy in their work, these three things are needed: they must be fit for it; they must not do too much of it; and they must have a sense of success in it.”
–John Ruskin
This morning I read the above quote in a different context and then took it where I take many thoughts in wondering how does it relate to my walk with Christ.
For simplicity sake let me take the perspective that my “work” as a child of God is to make and grow followers of Christ. I dare say that many of you have helped me feel success in it. And I dare say there is no fear of me ever doing too much of it. The question is am I fit for it. That is where I consistently feel inadequate.
Pondering this led me to read Ephesians 6:10-23 again. What stuck out at me this morning were these words from versus 19-20 –
“Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.”
My prayer, for me and for you, is for spiritual fitness. That God will continually bless me with the hunger for His Truth in that I am even more prepared to FEARLESSLY do His Work. Building the “full armor of God” (Ephesians 6:13) is a life-long process of adding and subtracting and modifying. Just like those little pathogens that continually mutate to attack our bodies, so Satan is continually adapting to find out our weaknesses.
