Our Wonder Room

Delicious

“Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather.”
– John Ruskin, author, art critic, and social reformer (1819-1900)

The weather is one of those things that I’m clear on when it is good and when it is bad. When it is so windy my fence is leaning over and the rain is coming down horizontally while I’m outside trying to stabilize my fence, that is something I usually classify as bad weather. When I’m lounging by the pool sipping a lemonade under the sunshine, that is good. Those times when the snow is up to my knees…

What if I actually looked upon people and situations (and the weather) the way Jesus does? Not as good or bad, but as a gift from God to be valued as it is. And in each person, and situation, and weather condition, I should be seeking God’s glory revealed… not wondering how to make it “better”. Not from a place of contentment or resignation or judgement, but from wonder. Like when I’m standing at the window watching the storm from inside. That kind of wonder. Like when I’m helping the less fortunate. That kind of wonder, too.

What will I wonder at today?
