Our Wonder Room

So Many Questions

thinking
“Since when do we have to agree with people to defend them from injustice?”
–Lillian Hellman, playwright (1905-1984)

That’s an interesting thing to read first thing in the morning. So many questions have filled my mind already in the few minutes that have past since I read it first. A couple of the interesting questions it spawned for me are along those same lines: do I have to dress like them, talk like them, believe what they believe? Eat what they eat?

Thinking on all that should not lead me to forget the very last word in the question: injustice. If that doesn’t drive me to my knees and to His Word, what does? I need such much Help each day as I stand in judgment of people and situations. That a capital “H” help, for the Holy Spirit. And a very little “j” for there is only one true Judge. I must rely on the Spirit for discernment on when to act or be still, when to speak or be silent. Then add to that to know when an injustice has been done. God gifted each of us with freedom on choice, and do whatever degree, each choice is a judgment, even if that makes me uncomfortable.

I guess after babbling this morning, I am reminded that I can never spend too much time in prayer, and in His Word. Well, unless it stops me from DOING His work here on earth. But how can I possibly go about doing that, His work, unless I know I am grounded in Him?

Okay, so I was looking for Scripture to wrap what I was thinking into a nice, neat package, and I came across this one:

“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
–1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

The reason it stuck out at me is that at times I can be overwhelmed with trying to know how God is directing me (see all my questions above). Many of the choices that we have to make are not easy ones. Yet, I need to be joyful always and giving of thanks. Wow!
