“We do not segment our lives, giving some time to God, some to our business or schooling, while keeping parts to ourselves. The idea is to live all of our lives in the presence of God, under the authority of God, and for the honor and glory of God. That is what the Christian life is all about.”
–R. C. Sproul
I re-read those words several times and compared them to most of my days. And there was definite contrast between Sproul’s first sentence and an “ordinary” day in my life. But then I stepped back and read the rest of his words again. “The idea is…”. Getting to a place where my life is not so segmented is a process.
I think that I am getting better at “desegmenting” my days. I think that is why most of my emails that I share with all of you are about glimpses and connections that I make. They aren’t about God forcing His way into my life in big ways. They are about Him making His presence known in ways that I often overlook, and yet for one moment, one day, I noticed.
The earthquake and recent events in Haiti can drive me to my knees. But so many other things should as well, whether in prayer of want or in prayer of thanksgiving.
Open the eyes of our hearts, Lord, so that we may see Your glory revealed.
