“She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: ‘You are the God who sees me,’ for she said, ‘I have now seen the One who sees me.’”
Genesis 16:13
One day my dad and I were driving through Seattle on the freeway. He was driving and I was the passenger. Not sure why I recall this with such vividness, but as I was sitting in the passenger seat I had my arm on the window sill and my hand was holding the handle mechanism that hung above the door. I must have grown tired of that position because I brought my hand down. At just that moment the driver next to me saw my action and must have thought I made a gesture toward him because he started honking and flipping me off. People watch us when we are least expecting them to.
You and I worship a God who watches US all the time. Not as a mean ogre waiting for us to mess up so He can punish us, which can sound a bit disconcerting. But God watches over us as a loving God who cares for us. His concern is for our safety as His children, in order that He might cover us with His grace and mercy. Yes, there have been and will be times when He is disappointed in my actions. Hopefully those are far outnumbered by the times He rejoices in me, His creation.
