Our Wonder Room

Why?

“The Greek word (makrothumein) means patience with people and not patience with circumstances.”

This morning I found myself reading those words that were included in a devotional reflection on 1 Corinthians 13. And I’m still pondering what they mean to me, today? Why did they happen to grab my attention. Why? Why? Why?

I think sometimes that is all God commands of me, is to stop and ask why? Interesting. Stopping to ask why takes patience. I can buzz by the homeless person on the corner with a dish of coins in front of him, or I can stop and ask why. Patience. I can be bothered by that person who just cut me off with their car. Or I can ask why?

“Why” forces me to expand my thinking and to allow for God to enter into the equation. “Why” forces me to set aside my bias, intentions, perceptions, and to let in new possibilities.

“Love is patient” – 1 Corinthians 13:4
