Our Wonder Room

Religion

I have been working on a project for someone for a while now. We have never physically met because in this age of the internet that happens. I am building a web site for him and we can do all of our interaction through email and the phone. But yesterday when he on the phone he shared that he had been jolted by an accident in his community. In his email to me later, he shared one little phrase which jolted me even more: “from our church.” Church, obviously, can mean a lot of different things to different people, but knowing that “church” was in his life freed me up to share scripture with him. Why?

It shouldn’t be like that. I can get so involved in building business and professional relationships that God, even though He is with me, never comes to the forefront unless there is some sort of situation or opening through which to share my own faith. Shouldn’t He be first? Perhaps He is actually first, as we witness by our own character and actions. It boggles my mind how God reveals opportunities to share my faith, to be His arms and legs and hands. It also floors me when I find out, after sometimes weeks or months or years of a professional relationship, that I have been dealing with a Christian.

“Religion is not ours till we live by it, till it is the Religion of our thoughts, words, and actions, till it goes with us into every place, sits uppermost on every occasion, and forms and governs our hopes and fears, our cares and pleasures.”
… William Law (1686-1761)
