Our Wonder Room

Waiting

“Don’t wait for a light to appear at the end of the tunnel.  Stride down there — and light the bloody thing yourself.”
–Sara Henderson

Lori forwarded this to me a while back and I had been going back to it reading it again and again off and on. And then this morning, as I was lying in bed contemplating the exact moment at which to get up and do something, I had a thought. This quote reminded me of “finishing the race.” In my mind I have this visual of two sprinters, one who continues toward the tape in an upright position, and the other who leans forward earnestly at the tape. Tape or tunnel, God wants for all of us to not be passive, but to be active in our pursuit of His will for our lives.

I must admit that when I have thought of the “light at the end of the tunnel” I have always thought of it coming towards me, and not me racing towards it. I think that has to change now in light of this new thought. Surely there must be times when it is God’s desire that I stride toward that light… times when I am His hands that must “light the bloody thing.”

“It is simply absurd to say you believe, or even want
to believe, in Him, if you do not do anything He tells you.”
-George Macdonald (1824-1905), “The Truth of Jesus”, Unspoken Sermons, Second Series [1885]
