Our Wonder Room

Having The Right Perspective

“God has not called me to be successful.
He called me to be faithful.”
–Teresa of Calcutta

This puts so many things in perspective I don’t know where to start. Whether it is in my marriage or any other relationship. Whether it is in my vocation, or my hobby. Whether it is in my walk with God or my walk toward God. In all things God has called me to  be faithful.

In so many things I tend to want to reach a destination, something by which I can measure whether I have succeeded or not. After all, God does not say “go and TRY to make disciples” right (Matthew 28:19-20)? Interesting thing that sticks out to me this morning about those two verses is the use of “ing”. Baptizing. Teaching. So “go” is probably better ready as “going” and “make” as “making”. Uh oh! Now instead of being all about the destination the commission is about being faithful, a faithfulness made easier by verse 20 – “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

It’s good to have goals in all, for they can set us in the right direction (hopefully). But as I read and re-read Scripture, so often the life lived is about the journey, not measuring one’s success. Being faithful.

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant!'”
–Matthew 25:23
