“The question is not whether the things that happen to you are chance things or God’s things because, of course, they are both at once. There is no chance thing through which God cannot speak—even the walk from the house to the garage that you have walked ten thousand times before, even the moments when you cannot believe that there is a God who speaks at all anywhere.”
Buechner’s words are always welcome words to my ears but I REALLY liked the ones I read this morning. They really hit the nail on the head for why I write 99% of what I write…God speaks to me, to us, constantly. Most of my joy in this journey comes from taking a moment here and there to try to figure out what He is saying to me. If I can encourage one person to stop and ask “What just happened here?” then I’ve done a good thing with my day.
I found myself going to Matthew 13 after reading Buechner, wanting to remind myself of those words Jesus spoke about why He spoke in parables. And I found my attention riveted to verses 16-17…
“But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”
–Matthew 13-16-17, NIV
I want to see God. I want to hear Him. So I must seek Him by constantly asking, “Was that You, God?”
In His service,
