“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.”
— Luke 2:10-11
Today is one of the most interesting days of the year. How many of us will spend time today reflecting on the year which will end when the clock strikes midnight? We may find ourselves thinking about our experiences, our losses, our accomplishments, and other changes in our lives. In the next breath we may contemplate our goals and wishes and the race we want to run in the year to come. I’m guessing there are not many other days on the calendar that gives us such pause and prompt to reflect and to dream.
As we are coming off the season of Advent, a time of anticipation, let us not stop anticipating. Let us embrace and celebrate anew the arrival of Christ in our lives with the same fervor and excitement as when we each gave our lives over to Him. I know that my passion and zeal ebb and flow, but may I find in this new year fresh legs with which to run the race of making disciples for Christ. May I find new fire in my belly with which to share the “good news of great joy” that is for all the people.
In the New Year, may you find yourself filled with His Spirit and energy and passion to proclaim the good news with your family, friends, strangers and enemies.
“He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.”
— Colossians 1:28-29
