“When I get ready to talk to people, I spend two thirds of the time thinking what they want to hear and one third thinking about what I want to say.”
— Abraham Lincoln
It was interesting for me to read this quote this morning. Mainly because my mind keeps wanting to change the two thirds. Do I want to spend that much time thinking about what they want to hear? Really? I’d like to pick Lincoln’s brain on that one. That said, if I’m spending two thirds of my time thinking about what the other person wants to hear, I am hopefully spending 99% of that same time asking God why that person wants to hear that.
How much time did Jesus spend telling people what they “wanted” to hear?
